Press Release: New Honorary Consul of Italy

Salt Lake City, UT — On May 15, 2025, at The Leonardo, the Utah Consular Corps (UCC) had the distinct honor of formally welcoming its newest member, Nicholas J. Fuoco, as Honorary Consul of Italy to Utah. The appointment ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Consul General of Italy in San Francisco, His Excellency Sergio Strozzi.

Key Highlights of the Ceremony

  • Appointment of Nicholas J. Fuoco: Mr. Fuoco, a long-time advocate for Italian culture and bilateral relations, was officially invested as Italy’s Honorary Consul to Utah. In his new role, he will serve as the primary liaison for cultural, economic, and community initiatives between Italy and the State of Utah.

  • Acknowledgment of Michael W. Homer’s Service: UCC extends its deepest gratitude to Honorary Consul Michael W. Homer, who, after 17 years of exemplary service, has concluded his tenure representing Italy in Utah.

  • Presence of Consul General Sergio Strozzi: His Excellency Strozzi—representing the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco—commended both Mr. Homer’s legacy and Mr. Fuoco’s vision for future Italy–Utah collaborations.

With the addition of Honorary Consul Fuoco, the Utah Consular Corps now represents 31 sovereign nations—reflecting Utah’s increasingly diverse international connections. From cultural exchanges and educational partnerships to economic development and humanitarian outreach, the UCC remains committed to fostering global engagement and mutual understanding within our state.
