Emeritus Members
When an Active Member with a minimum of five (5) years active service in Utah retires, the Corps may extend to such person an honorary lifetime membership in the Corps as an “Emeritus Member” by majority vote of the Active Members. Emeritus Members do not have the right to vote.

Michael was recognized by the State Department in 2008 when he was appointed as Honorary Vice Consul and again on April 2, 2012 when he was appointed as Honorary Consul. He has been a trial lawyer since 1981, has served on the Utah Board of State History since 1997 (Chair since 2002), on the Board of Advisors, Office for Undergraduate Advancement, University of Utah since 2005 and on the J. Willard Marriott Library Advisory Board, University of Utah since 2009. He has written four books, thirteen chapters in books and over seventy articles on historical and legal subjects. His most recent book, On the Way to Somewhere Else: European Sojourners in the Mormon West, 1834-1930 was published by The Arthur H. Clark Company in 2006 and republished by the University of Utah Press in 2010.
